About Sleep Hygienics Ltd. and the Founders

Environmental Control Over the Years

Our affiliate company, Western Allergy, has been a leading supplier to Allergists of allergy shots and tests in Canada for over 50 years. Two years ago, we began providing the same service for Veterinarians. Part of the history with Allergists was the early introduction of pillow and mattress covers to help control the symptoms of dust mite allergy, as the average mattress has over 2 million mites living in it. Allergists have long known that reducing the amount of exposure to mites reduces allergic responses.

We looked around to find mite covers for pet beds and were very surprised that none existed. We took what we know from years of experience with fabrics and modern membranes for human bed encasings and developed an environmental control bedding for pets. We met with leading Dermatological Veterinarians for valuable input and feedback.

Our Eureka moment.

Sleep Hygienics and Rx Clinical Pet Bedding™ evolved from the recognition that there was a missing focus on environmental control for pets. Environmental control has been prescribed for humans by allergists for over 30 years.

Evolution of Bio-functional Fabrics

Another part of our company history was being involved in the more recent introduction of biofunctional clothing for severe skin issues in children. The fabrics are treated with a bonded antimicrobial that can withstand washings. Some of these are used in sports clothing today to reduce odor and bacteria. We realized that if we were going to invent truly healthy bedding environment for pets, the proper antimicrobial has a vital role to play. So the outer fabric of our pet bedding kills bacteria on contact such as E. coil, staph, yeast infections and many others via a bonded antimicrobial.  Where on other beds these bacteria can thrive and multiply, on the Rx Clinical Pet Bed bacteria are killed when in contact with the fabric. The fabric is perfectly safe for pets and humans.

Our Management Team & their Pets

Christian Sharp, MBA, President/Co-founder.

Christian has worked in several roles at Western Allergy for the past 6 years before co-founding Sleep Hygienics Ltd. with his father. With a strong entrepreneurial spirit and an even stronger love for dogs, he has taken what he has learned in the allergy industry and applied evidence-driven science to help enhance the long-term health of animals. It is a good news story, being able to introduce a completely unique quality product that is drug-free and can possibly help reduce a pet's need for medications. Christian is also one of many who talk almost too much about his own dogs, Barney (Basset Hound) and Beah (Labx) and cat, Luna (Manx).

Daniel Sharp, VP Business Development/ Co-founder

Dan has owned and operated Western Allergy, which is an allergy pharma company, for over 30 years. During that time, he incorporated other businesses that focused around allergy in terms of environmental control and skin care. He values his many contacts made in both medicine and industry from around the world and the help, insights and education they have provided. Dan has been active in many charitable and philanthropic roles over the years. He, like his son, has a true love for both cats and dogs and as such, is ecstatic to be able to introduce a whole new treatment regime and see how many animals he knows it will help. Dan is often caught chatting in complete sentences to his two huge rescue dogs, George (Bernadoodle) and Henry (Bernese Mountain Dog X )
